Just a quick post updating you on my latest news.
Today Goldsboro books announced their shortlist for the Glass Bell Award and I am thrilled to report that The Silent Companions made the cut! There are some truly spectacular books up there so it is a real honour to be included.
UK publication for The Corset is fast approaching. I’ve just received my finished copies today and they are glorious! Audible have now put the preorder link up for the audiobook, narrated by the brilliant Nathalie Buscombe, which is launching on 4th October 2018. Can’t wait to listen to the finished product!
Exciting news for readers today! If you sign up to The Pigeonhole, you will be able to read The Corset in installments a week before publication, absolutely FREE. Places are limited, so be sure to register as soon as possible. I hope you enjoy the book and if you do, please be kind enough to leave a review.
Thank you so much to everyone who voted for The Silent Companions in the WHSmith Thumping Good Read Awards! I’m ecstatic to report that my little book has WON!
Here’s what the prestigious judges had to say:
“I adored this book. It has stayed with me for ages, and I slightly wish it hadn’t. Full of striking imagery, terrifying scenes (the splinters!) and it left me with a really horrible aftertaste (I mean that as a compliment). The final twist made me gasp. Tonally consistent and neatly structured. Really well done.” Jojo Moyes
“The Silent Companions ultimately shone for originality, for the sheer quality of the writing, the characters and some masterly chills. A great ghost story for all seasons. A thumping good read!” Peter James
You will now be able to get the paperback at a huge discount from WHSmith stores and online.

Two judges, the acclaimed Peter James and sensational Jojo Moyes, will choose their favourite, but 50% of the total prize will depend upon public vote. If you have read and enjoyed The Silent Companions, I would be extremely grateful for your support.

I’m very excited to tell you that THE SILENT COMPANIONS has been selected for the new Zoe Ball Book Club on ITV!
Tune in on Sunday 29th July between 8.30am and 9.30am to watch Zoe and a celebrity guest discuss the book. There will also be a pre-recorded package about the story featuring me (eeek!) but I don’t know what form that will take yet.
It’s such an honour to be chosen as one of the 10 brilliant titles that make up the list. For full details of the book club, click here.
Here’s some exciting news! To celebrate the paperback publication of THE SILENT COMPANIONS, there is another fabulous competition running at Marie Clare.
The prize is a weekend away for two in Lewtrenchard Manor, Devon. It looks beautiful and apparently has some ghosts of its own…

It’s the UK paperback publication date for The Silent Companions – what better day to announce my next two books commissioned by Bloomsbury Raven?
I’m so thrilled to share this news after signing the deal in December 2017. For full details of the stories to come, please see this article in The Bookseller.
Today I get to reveal the cover for my next book, The Corset! Isn’t it a beauty? Raven Books (Bloomsbury) will be releasing it in the UK on 4th October 2018. Not TOO long to wait … No news on other territories yet I’m afraid.
I’m so happy that the jacket is a beautiful shade of blue, just like a certain corset within the book. Note that the peacock feather turns into a thread for the needle beneath the title! This story is about a seamstress named Ruth who may or may not be a murderer … My unofficial tagline is ‘a stitch in time kills nine’. More details to come soon!
I thought you might like to see the advance copies of The Silent Companions UK paperback, due to hit the shelves on 5 April 2018. Aren’t they gorgeous? Retaining the wonderfully creepy eye through the keyhole, the paperback has a slightly darker feel to it. The Bridge looms up in gold, surrounded by the thistles from Hetta’s garden patch. Most exciting of all, the cover carries an endorsement from the Queen of Ghost Stories Susan Hill! I am so honoured by this.
You can preorder the paperback here, although the retail websites are not showing the new cover just yet.
As you may know, my new novel The Corset is due out in UK hardback in the autumn of 2018. I have had a sneak peek at the cover design and all I can say is it’s completely glorious. Bloomsbury Raven are due to reveal it in the next few weeks, so watch this space for more beautiful books.
